Tasting the New Year

The first week of January is a fickle period. We want it to set the tone for the rest of the year, while we spend it hard at work trying to savour the last days of relaxation before the year really starts, whether we work or study––or those strongest among us who juggle both. We set up our journals, create aesthetically appealing mood boards, and convince ourselves that this will be the year we finally stick to our ambitious resolutions. Shoot for the stars. Why not? This is why, when I came across a Tumblr post by the lovely Lilly Ashtonencouraging people to pick back up the lost art of blogging, I jump at the chance.

Although my chief priority is just to make it through another semester of university (and hopefully emerge on the other side with a decent grade or three), there is no harm in trying. I adore writing. I adore reading. I have been contemplating blog posts and newsletters for a long time without being able to motivate myself to just start; questions of What and How and Why plague an indecisive mind, and nail to shelves those ideas that ought to be on the workbench. The first step is the hardest, but sometimes, all it takes is a small push.

    1. Yay! How to follow/unfollow confused me at first, too, but it is actually easy: from the navigation panel/main menu, click the "reading list," then "manage," "add," and enter the url of the blog you wish to follow.

    4. hiii poking my nose in here because i was confused too, i think it also has something to do with the actual blog settings as well? there’s a gadget you can make sure you have somewhereee on your page. it’s called “followers”, and if you have that, people will be easily able to follow you with one click! [hopefully] [correct me if i'm wrong]

    5. I looked and you are correct! Thank you. Mine looks a little out of place, I feel, so I will have to experiment a bit (vain fool that I am).

    6. It appears the gadget itself cannot be customised, unfortunately, but this is nonetheless a grand revelation.
